Canterbury Cathedral is the Motherchurch of the Anglican Communion, and the seat of the Archbishop . The Cathedral is both a holy place and part of a World Heritage Site.The Cathedral's history goes back to 597AD when St Augustine, sent by Pope Gregory the Great as a missionary, established his seat (or 'Cathedra') in Canterbury. Commanding the shortest sea crossing between England and the continent, Dover Castle boasts a long and incredibly eventful history. This spectacular Castle, above the famous white cliffs was originally an Iron Age fort, where a Roman lighthouse still stands, one of the best-preseved in Europe. Kent's world famous miniature railway, the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway first opened to traffic in July 1927 as the 'World's Smallest Public Railway' It now covers a distance of 13.5 miles from the picturesque Cinque Port of Hythe the fishermans cottages and lighthouses at Dungeness.
